A cup is volume while a gram is weight, so crossing between them requires ingredient density. The selector provides practical average grams per millilitre for common ingredients. Those estimates are clearly labelled because flour packing, sugar crystal size, humidity and measuring technique change the real amount.
For water-like liquids, volume and weight may look nearly interchangeable because one millilitre of water is about one gram under ordinary kitchen conditions. That shortcut fails for oil, honey, flour, oats and many other ingredients. Always select the ingredient before reading a volume-to-weight result and keep the approximation note with the converted recipe.
Unit names also matter. A US tablespoon, imperial tablespoon and Australian tablespoon are not universally the same, and a metric cup is not the US cup used here. The interface spells out the basis instead of displaying an ambiguous “cup.” When the original recipe defines its own measurement standard, follow that definition over a generic converter.
Use extra precision while calculating, then round to equipment that can actually measure the result. A home scale reading to one gram cannot reliably portion 0.04 g of spice, while a production formula may require a specialised fine scale. Avoid repeated conversions because every rounding step can compound the difference.
Oven conversion changes the temperature number, not the behaviour of a particular appliance. Fan-assisted ovens often require a separate adjustment from conventional ovens, and thermostats can run hot or cool.
